Tree Company to Map Historic Collections in Nichols Arboretum

The Davey Tree folks arrived at Nichols Arboretum on Wednesday, March 9 and will be around the rest of the week.

What: The Davey Tree staff is mapping the Arboretum's historic tree collections.

Why: We need an updated inventory of the historic collections in the Arb. Davey Tree has a special tree-mapping team that provides this service nationwide for arboreta, university campuses, etc. This work is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The base-line data they collected will be used by a Matthaei-Nichols summer intern to continue the detailed mapping.

Where: At the Nichols Arboretum, but operating out of the Field Office (so visitors will see Davey Tree vehicles there, and as needed, parked along the Arb's main roads, when the crews are on-site)

When: Starting this Wednesday, March 9, and continuing into late April through early May.

Updates: Will be in our e-news, and once the project is completed by early fall, in our member newsletter
